Inishowen Heritage Trail
Inishowen is unique in terms of the outstanding beauty of its geography and in the way that the traces of its history survive to this day, conveying an evocative picture of a vibrant and unfolding past. We invite you to take this fascinating 14 stop historical tour of Inishowen which will take you on a journey through Inishowen’s historical past. Immerse yourself in the inspiring cultural and heritage sites some of which date back to early settlements, which include ancient forts, castle’s, stone circles and high crosses to name but a few.
This trail alon The Wild Atlantic Way will be your starting point as you begin your exploration of the rich historical tapestry of the Inishowen peninsula. However, there are hundreds of additional heritage sites left for you to discover.
For the athletes among you The Ballyliffin 10 Mile Coastal Challenge takes place every Easter Saturday. A great day of Fun for all the family with Kids races on the beach also.
The summer and autumn seasons provide a wealth of festivals in the north west. In the Ballyliffin area, the highlight is the Clonmany Festival in early August, with a feast of music, singing competitions, an agricultural show exhibiting livestock and produce from the local area and children’s events.
Clonmany and Ballyliffin host a traditional singing week-end in March. Carndonagh Agricultural Show in July profiles the best the Inishowen has to offer – cattle and sheep, horse competitions, and exhibitions of crafts, food and machinery.

Doagh Famine Village is one of Ireland’s most unique & popular attractions which is visited by thousands from across the world every year.
